Workplace attendance in the UK is nearing zero as the second national lockdown and subsequent tired system sends employees back to the home office.
The number of people going into work had reached a similar low in April / May before gradually returning to almost 40% of YOY levels by the Autumn. However, strong advice from the government to work from home and this second wave has caused workplace attendance to tumble once again. With Christmas and London going into Tier 3 from today, the data suggests the commute economy could be in for a tough start to 2021.
The Huq Index counts the number of daily unique panelists observed visiting their places of work and compares that to the mean of the equivalent week the year before, basing the result at 100.
