Australia and Oceania: Rise Trend
Although COVID-19 accelerated declines in occupancy since the beginning of March in Australia and Oceania, the region has started to see a progressive occupancy increase.
Weekend occupancy increases
Australia and New Zealand have seen spikes in occupancy during the weekends. New Zealand posted its highest occupancy level during the last weekend of March, while Australia reached its highest occupancy level during the first weekend of June.
Australia: still very flat in the cities
Australia’s capital cities are seeing occupancy increases over the weekends. However, overall, hotel performance in those cities is still very flat.
Auckland: edging toward 50% occupancy
New Zealand has seen consistency in performance across the country. However, Auckland is edging toward 50% occupancy due to weekend occupancy increases and demand from quarantined travelers. Wellington posted also occupancy increases during that particular time.
